What is KSWH The Pulse 99.9?

The Pulse is one of the few college radio stations in the United States run almost exclusively by college students. Located in Arkadelphia, AR, on the Henderson State University (HSU) campus, the college radio station started moderately small running on only 10 watts of power. That was just enough to barely reach outside of the campus!

In early 2004, the station was upgraded to 100 watts of power, that's 10 times the previous amount for those who know math. A very big step for such a tiny station. Previously called The Switch 91.1, the station was pushed to change names and frequencies. Our frequency would become 99.9, only just left of the radio dial (most, if not all, college stations are located left of the 100.00 FM,) and after much debate, the name was changed to The Pulse. The name is based off our school motto "The School With The Heart." We are also a great indication that our school is alive!

With 100 watts of power, The Pulse could now cover the entir Arkadelphia area and most of Clark county! A largely eclectic station, The Pulse expanded its demographic from HSU students to the 18 - 27 audience. Being eclectic would mean playing more varieties of music and in turn gaining a variety of people as the audience.

But, music isn't everything. The Pulse also runs several events from on and off air contests to fund raisers. We plan at least two major events every semester which can be anything from gaming contests held outside on a two-story screen to a competion of men in drag duking it out to see who makes the best "whoa"man.

Most of these events coincide with its sister program Henderson TV (HTV) which also runs on the same campus as The Pulse. With radio and television working together that means double the advertising capabilities, double the event exposure, and just much more to enjoy.

The Pulse is currently working hard to serve the Henderson and Arkadelphia community and working even harder to get yet another upgrade to become a 250 watt station. But we can't do it alone!
