HendersonTV.ORG |
Our lovely young sister station, Henderson TV (HTV), has finally gotten its very own website! It just went up today so it still doesn't have too much information on it. We also created a new logo as the HTV station branches outward and into the public. The new logo includes a penguin because after extensive research the HTV scientists have discovered that people dig penguins. Seriously, have you ever met someone who viciously hates penguins? If you thought anything other then the answer "no," you're wrong and just lying to get attention. What's wrong with you?
No, thank YOU, Barefoot Bride!
Our unofficial band correspondent, Leah Joiner, writes about her day with the band Barefoot Bride! Her article and more on the Events page!
They also sent us a letter to post on our site:

We want to start of by thanking everyone who made us feel welcome and at home on our visit to Arkadelphia. We want to start out by thanking The Pulse college radio station at Henderson State University for letting us walk right in for an interview. We'd also like to thank David, Lon and the rest of Thrio's staff for booking us a date on such short notice! We had a wonderful time and the food was AMAZING!!!
Jessica and Randi, what can we say....Thanks so much for meeting up with us and helping us promote the show. We also really appreciate the invite and the pizza. Of course Leah for hanging out with us and taking pictures/filming the show. Next time we come in, were bringing you a bunch of movies!!! Hannah and Laura for the ping pong match and taking a quick break from studying. John for coming and hanging out with us and entertaining us with a great song. And last but not least, everyone who came out and supported us at the show. We had so much fun and met so many great people! We're very excited about coming back and doing it again!!!
See you soon,
Stephen, David, Javan and Andy |

LA Invasion?
Friends of Barefoot Bride and also from Los Angeles, CA, Jupiter Sunrise is coming to Thrio's Wednesday November 3rd at 7:30 p.m. This is there second time in Arkadelphia so there definately is something here that's worth coming back to. Unoffical band correspondent, Leah Joiner, hopefully will be there for some nice pictures and maybe even some footage. I'm also expecting another article, LEAH.
You can check out Jupiter Sunrise and grab their CD at their own website at www.jupitersunrise.net.

Candy! ...And Barefoot Bride |
Last Wednesday, much to our surprise, a band from Los Angeles showed up in our office! That's not really an every day occurence, so naturally we were totally stoked. They had heard about Arkadelphia, AR, from another band from LA called Jupiter Sunrise who had previously preformed here and told them that Arkadelphia was a cool little town to visit.

Cool bands dig the pink. |
Barefoot Bride was hanging around campus that day passing out fliers to advertise for their show at Thrio's that night. Have you noticed yet that I am really bad at the whole "news" thing? Anyway, to help them out we quickly grabbed a CD they had brought for us, played it on air, and had the band themselves go on air for a short interview.
I wasn't able to attend their show that night (though I heard it was beyond stellar,) but our unofficial band correspondent, Leah Joiner, went and grabbed plenty of pictures and some nice footage as well. The pictures along with an article written by Leah will be up shortly!
If you missed their show this time, no worries. From the sound of it, Barefoot Bride liked Arkadelphia so much that it wouldn't be a surprise to see them here again. Jupiter Sunrise is also planning a return visit to Arkadelphia this November 3rd at Thrio's. If Arkadelphia continues to make such a good impression on LA bands, more of them will come! Well, we can dream, can't we?
In other, far more important news, the annual Henderson Halloween will be held tonight at 5:30 pm in on campus in the Garrison Center. Henderson Halloween is a safe and fun atmosphere for the whole community to bring their children for trick or treating. The quality and quantity of the candy (plus the short time it takes to acquire it) makes it one of the best places to go trick or treating.

We're not sure if he won out of pity or not. |
Also, last Thursday we had six promising students compete on campus in the Battle of the Young Broadcasters competition hosted by 103.7 The Buzz. Each student was interviewed by Justin and Nathan on-air (The Zonewith Justin and Nathan, 6 - 10am weekdays on 103.7 The Buzz) and had to read a one-minute sportcast they had written themselves. After that, one contestant would be chosen to represent the university in the finals.
The battle was feirce causing at least $60,000 worth of damage. 12 people were killed and at least 300 injured. Despite all of this, Derrell "Headband" Young came out on top with a furious sportcast rap with background music by Snoop Dog (seriously, this time I'm not joking.)
On October 29th through November 2nd, you will be able to vote online at The Buzz's site for your favorite broadcaster. (Here's a hint, you'll be voting for Derrell.) If selected, Derrell will win an appearance on the morning show, a professional demo tape, $200 for books, and food at Wendy's!
To learn more about the competition, see pictures of the contestants, and hear the winning broadcasts, visit 103.7 The Buzz.
